About Conference | This is a first conference of College of Legal Studies on the issue of Climate Change and Human Rights. This is a one and half day conference with three technical sessions and three panel discussions on the topic and will attract senior government officers, legal luminaries, experts, academicians, students, researchers, civil society and socially responsible industrial partners. There has been much talk about the violations of human rights due to visible effect of climate change. The Conference aims to discuss the state responsibility in protecting people from violations of these rights, essentially the rights enshrined and guaranteed under Chapter III (Fundamental Rights) of Constitution of India and the role of state in fulfilling the minimum policy mandates under Chapter IV (Directive Principles of State Policy) in a climate constrained world. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) team will incorporate the conference outcomes into a model policy document to serve as a guidance note for implementation. Post conference UPES wants to initiate towards establishing a Legal Aid Cell. Young law students will be encouraged to undertake challenging research and litigation to protect the societies in Pondha village and surrounding mountain areas from adverse effect of climate change.
