‘Green Narsaraopet’ campaign begins

GUNTUR: A massive tree plantation programme of planting one lakh saplings will be taken up at Narsaraopet as part of its Green Narsaraopet initiative.
A committee consisting of 30 members to realise this vision was formed on July 14 under the leadership of Narsaraopet Cable Vision managing director Nallapati Ramachandra Prasad. The plantation programme would start on August 15.
Addressing a meeting held here on Monday, Mr. Prasad said that the committee evoked an enthusiastic response from the people including clubs like, Lions, Rotary, Rotaract, Vasavi, Vasavi Greater, Vasavi Vanitha and Vasavi Youth etc. Members from Chiranjeev Seva Samithi, Balakrishna Fans Association, managements of various engineering colleges and private educational instititions have agreed to take part in the event, he said.
The Green Narasaraopet Committee met District Collector B. Venkatesham on July 18, who has agreed to provide one lakh saplings and directed District Forest Officer Satyanarayana to arrange for the distribution of saplings.
Meanwhile, the committee has decided to organise walkathons and conduct competitions in schools and colleges.
A drawing competition on ‘Protection of Environment’ was held at Nandamuri Basavatarakam and Nallapati Venkateswara Chowdary College on Sunday.
In the competitions under the sub-junior category, Radhika and Chinmaye from Kesava Model School won the first and second prizes respectively.
Sai Prakash and Geethika from Kesav Public School won the first and second prizes respectively under the junior category while Amarendra and Kalyana Kumar won the first and second prizes in the senior category.
