Pune, March 17
Two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto Ltd has become Bharat Stage III-(BS III) compliant as it has started manufacturing vehicles as per the new emission norms.
The norms were to come into force from April 1, but have been delayed by at least three months.
Emissions standards are requirements that set specific limits to the amount of pollutants that can be released into the environment.
According to the Bharat III norms for two-wheelers, the carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons plus oxides of nitrogen emission have to be brought down from 1.50 (g/km) to 1.0 (g/km) from April.
Mr S. Sridhar, CEO, Two-wheelers, BAL, said, “We have been working on getting BS III-compliant from a long time. Over the years, our R&D team has allowed us to stay ahead of the learning curve and even this time, the team has ensured that every product that we manufacture meets the new norms.”
The BS III norms were notified by the Government on the recommendations by the Dr R.A. Mashelkar committee for pollution control. The norms will be applicable across the country.
