Bajaj Electricals plans Rs 30-cr CFL facility

Bajaj Electricals and Appliances, a part of the Bajaj Group, will invest Rs 30 crore to set up a greenfield facility in Nashik, Maharashtra, to manufacture Compact Flourescent Lamp.

Starlite acquisition

The company had last year acquired Nashik-based Starlite Industries which produces 10 million CFL a year. “We want to take our CFL production to 40 million by 2010. The new facility will give a boost to our growth roadmap,” Mr R. Ramakrishnan, Executive Director, Bajaj Electricals Ltd, told Business Line.

Bajaj Electricals, which had posted a turnover of Rs 1,404 crore in 2007-08, said it is eyeing a turnover of Rs 1,700 crore by the end of this fiscal.

Eyes white goods space

The company, launching its range of home appliances under the Bajaj Platina range today, said it is also looking to enter the white goods space. “We may enter the microwave and room heating devices as it is a fast growing category,” he said.

UK tie-up

It is also strengthening its tie-ups with international manufacturers. Bajaj Appliances has a tie-up with UK-based Strix for heating element controls and Galanz of China for microwave ovens, Italian company Nardi for hobs, chimney and modular products. “We are looking at more such tie-ups,” Mr Ramakrishnan said.

The company has contract manufacturers in Himachal and Uttarakhand for its range of products, including food processors, toasters, water heaters and steam irons.
