NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 1^st  October, 2003.

S.O 1147 (E)  - In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sections (1)  and (4) of  section 8 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 ( 18 of 2003), the Central Government hereby establishes a body to be called the National Biodiversity Authority, on and from the 1^st day of October, 2003 for the purposes of the said Act consisting of the following members, namely:-

Member appointed as Chairperson under clause (a)

of sub-section (4) of section 8:

(1)      Shri Vishwanath  Anand                                    Chairperson

Ex-officio members appointed under clause (b) of

sub-section (4) of section 8:

(2)      Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

(3)      Additional Director General, (Forests ), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.

(4)      Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the subject in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Ex-officio members appointed under clause (c) of

sub-section (4) of section 8:

(5)      Joint Secretary to the Government of India  dealing with the subject in the Agricultural  Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture.

(6)      Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the subject in the department of Biotechnology.

(7)      Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the subject in the Department of Ocean Development.

(8)      Joint Secretary to the Government of India, dealing with the subject in the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation.

(9)      Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the subject in the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy.

(10)    Joint Secretary to the Government of India, dealing with the subject in the Department of Science and Technology.

(11)    Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the subject in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Non-official members appointed under clause (d) of

sub-section (4) of section8:

(12)    Vacant.

(13)    Vacant.

(14)    Vacant.

(15)    Vacant.

(16)    Vacant.

2.       The term of office of the members of the National Biodiversity Authority shall be for a period of three years from the 1^st day of October, 2003: 

Provided that the term of office of Shri Vishwanath Anand as Chairperson of the National Biodiversity Authority shall be upto the 14^th July, 2004 or till a regular Chairperson is appointed whichever is earlier.
